4 Months

Dear Henry,

Another month under your belt! Good work, buddy!  This month has flown by.  I'm not sure if it's because I'm working or what, but I'm learning more about cherishing every moment we have together and time management.

First of all, you're doing great with the babysitter while mommy and daddy are at work.  She's your new buddy!  We couldn't be happier with her.  She takes such good care of you.  It makes going to work everyday so much easier.

I feel like you developed so much this month.  You are rolling over from your back to belly (You haven't figured out how to go from belly to back yet.).  You have gotten so strong...holding up your head really well and sitting up in my lap or in one of your chairs.  You grab at your toys and try to put everything and anything into your mouth.  Gumming your teethers, especially Sophie the Giraffe, is constant. You peer around at everything and seem to just take it all in.  When you are amused by something you are examining, you'll make little raptor-like screeches.  You've started smiling a ton; I never tire of it. You've even started laughing every now and then. You are just the cutest!

We went through a little rough patch with you in the sleep department.  All of a sudden you started waking up multiple times a night, which was so not like you.  You kept busting out of your swaddle and crying.  We tried many different tactics to get you to go back to sleep (feeding, patting, rocking, ignoring), but nothing seeming to be working, except snuggling on the couch with you and letting you fall asleep on us.  Finally, one night we tried putting you to bed without your swaddle and it was a MIRACLE... you sleep through the night until morning.  I guess that's what you were trying to tell us for a week, "Get me out of this dam swaddle mom and dad!"  Sorry it took us so long to figure it out.  It's trial and error with you as our first baby.  You also started sleeping on you belly, which the doctor said is ok since you are rolling onto it by yourself.  You seem to be much more comfortable this way which may be why your are sleeping so well now.  You've been falling asleep by 8:00 or 8:30 pm and you don't wake up until 6:30 or 7:00 am ready to eat. You cut out your mid-night feeding.  This is wonderful!  Thanks for that!  Your naps started to go down hill too...only napping for 30-45 minutes 4 times a day, but those seem to be slowly improving and are starting to get back to 1-1 1/2 hour naps.

You are a homebody and a creature of habit.  You know your own home and daily routine and don't like to stray from it.  Any variation in your day and it throws you off.  You don't do too well out and about or around big groups of people where there's a lot going on.  People probably think mommy and daddy are lying when we say we have such a good baby (which you are any day of the week at home) because you get very fussy and don't know what to with yourself.  I think because you're home all day with one other person and it's nice and quiet for you. Mommy is already worrying about this and is having visions of you in school sitting by yourself, not wanting to work with anyone.

I'm so excited to get to know you more and more each day.  You'll never be four months old again (or three months, or two months, or one month, or 1 day).  For that I am sad.  But I get to witness and share in the next month, and the next and the next.  How great is that?  I thank God every single day for you and the time we have ahead together.  I am so in love with you.  I got the best little boy.

Love,
Mommy
