12 Months...Henry Hits One Year Old!!!

Dear Henry,

Congratulations!  You're a whole year old, and Mommy and Daddy both think it has - WITHOUT QUESTION - been the best year of our lives.  But it IS bittersweet: knowing you are growing up and leaving the adorable baby days behind.

You are our little angel and we are so blessed to have you with us every day.  Life has changed so much for us in the last year, but we wouldn't trade it for the world.  We can both remember seeing and holding you for the very first time after you were born and it seems like only yesterday that we brought you home.  We snuggled on the couch with you all day and kept saying to ourselves, "Holy cow!  We've got a baby!  We can't believe he's ours!!!"  You were so tiny and precious those first few days and weeks... we were so careful holding you, we didn't want to break the fragile goods!  (Little did we know you would turn into a rough-and-tumble little dude who can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!)

We have been so lucky to experience all of your big firsts over the past twelve months, as well as a lot of little ones.  Watching you learn and grow has been so exciting, and to see you figure out the world around you, day by day, has been fascinating to watch.  It is so cool to see how seemingly insignificant things or objects give you the biggest smile or how you giggle like crazy at simple things like Mommy or Daddy making a silly face at you.  There has been some trial-and-error with you over the past year, and being parents is a hard job, but it has been very rewarding and we wouldn't have had it any other way.  Here's what you've been up to the last month of your first year:

- You still love pushing your gator-walker around the house.  You finally figured out how to crouch down to pick things up while standing... although sometimes you can't get yourself back upright without a little help!

- You've started trying to walk.  You'll pull yourself up on the couch, turn around and take a step or two before giving up and plopping on your butt... which makes you laugh every time!  When you aren't trying to walk, your crawling is super fast.  Mommy and Daddy can hardly keep up with you.

- You now have six teeth (four on top, two on the bottom) and you eat anything and everything that comes your way.  You are also officially a milk drinker:  Mommy started you on whole milk a few weeks shy of your first birthday.  You didn't even flinch with the new taste coming from your bottle, of which you are down to one or two a day.  Your favorite is still the one right before bedtime where we snuggle close on the couch with your blankie and you drink your milk peacefully as I nuzzle your fuzzy hair.  It is still one of my very favorite things of the day.  I know I'll have to wean you from your bottle soon (I'm already missing it), but for now I'm not quiet ready to - nor are you.

- You really - REALLY - don't like hearing Mommy or Daddy tell you "no."  If we say it sternly enough, you will stick out your bottom lip, put your head down and pretend to cry until we make everything better.

- You officially have your own language.  Even more so than last month, you talk all day telling us what you like, what you want to do... and accompanying this chatter you've started pointing at what you want to play with and yapping until we take you over to it or hand it to you.

- You keep sleeping very well.  Straight through the night, no muss, no fuss.

Henry, we want you to know that Mommy and Daddy love you every moment of every single day.  We treasure every single snuggle, every giggle, every tear, every smile, every wiggle that comes from you.  We could never have imagined how amazing a little boy would be and how much joy you would bring to our lives.  You are such a gift and we are so thankful and lucky to have you.  HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY HENRY!!!

Love,
Mommy & Daddy
